Hearts of Oak defender Kelvin Osei Asibey has singled out Asante Kotoko midfielder Albert Amoah as the toughest opponent he has faced in the Ghana Premier League.
Speaking in an interview with Sporty FM, Osei Asibey praised Amoah’s technical quality and spatial awareness, describing encounters with the Kotoko playmaker as his most challenging to date.
Albert Amoah is the toughest opponent I faced last season. He really gave me a tough time in the first round of the league,” Osei Asibey said. “Amoah runs a lot and that made me struggle.”
Osei Asibey, who joined Hearts of Oak ahead of the 2023/24 season, has been one of the standout performers for the Accra-based giants, earning plaudits for his composure and versatility at the back.
The 24-year-old’s comments come amid growing rivalry between the two traditional Ghanaian powerhouses, who both endured inconsistent campaigns last season and are looking to rebuild ahead of the new term.
Amoah, 23, was one of Kotoko’s few bright spots during the season, registering key performances and notching 7 goals that solidified his reputation as a rising talent in Ghanaian football.
The pair are expected to cross paths again when Hearts and Kotoko renew their rivalry in the upcoming President Cup scheduled for Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium, in a fixture that remains one of the most fiercely contested derbies in African football.
