Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare said it was "surreal" to be called up to the Ghana senior national team, the Black Stars.

The 32-year-old made his debut appearance during Ghana's 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar last month.

The Black Stars pummelled Chad 5-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium before using Madagascar as 'chopping sticks' (3-0) in the 5th and 6th rounds of matches in the qualifying campaign.

The win against Chad and Madagascar helped Ghana to extend their lead at the top of Group I to 15 points, three above second-placed Comoros.

"What I will say is with the Black Stars, although it is by the grace of God that I got a call-up. What I will say is that first of all, I will say thank you to the supporters and management and most of the Ghana members, players, and the authorities," Asare stated.

"The work I didn't do alone, they helped me to get that achievement and also my determination is that when I am in the goalpost, it will not be easy to concede."

Asare also emphasized the significance of diligence and perseverance in attaining this achievement.

"If you are a goalkeeper and you keep a clean sheet and don't concede goals, people will see it. So far, I will say my hard work helped me to get this call-up."

The next goal for Asare is to maintain his place in the team's starting line up for their subsequent international matches.
