The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) has temporary lifted the 30-month ban imposed on the talented midfielder, Kickgh.com can exclusively confirm.
Asante Kotoko midfielder Richmond Lamptey was handed a 30-month ban for his involvement in a match fixing scandal between Ashanti Gold SC and Inter Allies during the 2020/21 season.
The 25-year-old was charged on two counts for breaching Article 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier league regulations,2019 and Article 26(1) & (2) of the GFA Code of Ethics, 2019.
Lamptey was part of the Inter Allies team that played the fixed match against Ashantigold which ended in a 7-0 win for the Miners at the Len Clay Sports Stadium.
Asante Kotoko have been given the green light by CAS to register Richmond Lamptey for the 2022/23 season.
The club's official statement reads “This afternoon, the club through our lawyer Nilo Effori have secured a ruling from CAS granting Richmond Lamptey provisional measures (Stay of Execution) against the decision of the GFA Appeals Committee meaning Lamptey is free to continue his career.”
The former WAFA midfielder joined Asante Kotoko from Inter Allies on a three-year deal prior to the start of the 2021/22 season.
Lamptey played an instrumental role in Asante Kotoko's Ghana Premier League triumph last season.
