Legon Cities commenced their season's campaign with a hard-fought win against Karela United in the match-week one of 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season on Sunday afternoon.
The Royals exercised their attacking muscles to secure a 2-1 comeback win over Karela United at the El-wak Sports Stadium.
Before the commencement of the game, a minute of silence was observed in honour of Legon Cities goalkeeper Sylvester Sackey, who died earlier this week after battling illness.
Coach Paa Kwesi Fabin paraded new players in Legon Cities line up against Karela United with only Nicholas Mensah, Nasiru Moro, Suleman Mohammed and Ebenezer Amegah who featured for club last season.
Karela United looked dangerous in the early minutes of the fixture and they mounted an intense pressure on the back line of the host but thanks to goalkeeper Kwame Aziz, who rescued Legon Cities from conceding in the opening minutes.
The visitors keep tormenting the Royals lads at the El-wak Sports Stadium and their impressive performance earned them the opener through Kharim Abdul Ayeh on the stroke of halftime.
The first ended in a 1-0 lead for Karela United courtesy a brilliant strike from Kharim Abdul Ayeh in the 45th minute of the game.
In the second half, Legon Cities warmed themselves into the game with a different approach which saw them registering two goals after the hour-mark.
Youngster Frank Antwi, who was making his debut for Legon Cities, scored a brace in the space of eight minute by levelling the score with a cool finish on the 61st minute.
Antwi notched up the second goal with a fine strike via a pass from Kwame Boateng to give Legon Cities a well-deserved lead in the 69th minute of the game.
Legon Cities enjoyed majority of the possession and maintained their lead to start their 2023/24 season's campaign with a sweet home victory.
