Asante Kotoko's interim Management Committee member, James Kwesi Appiah, who was present at the Nana Amoah Koramansah II Park last Sunday, has accused Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah as the instigator of the confusion that happened in GPL match-day 19 fixture between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC.
The fatal attack from the home supporters led to the unfortunate death of staunch Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong, famously known as 'Nana Pooley' who got stabbed by an unknown armed man.
There has been lots of discussions concerning the sad event that transpired with three people arrested since yesterday including Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah.
Kwesi Appiah, who also doubles as head coach of Sudan, has accused the Nsoatreman FC bank-roller for inciting his supporters against they (the visiting team) and feels he was triggered after they refused to join him on the pitch to calm things down following a heated brawl between players of both teams in the early stages of the second half.
“They told us they would bring 120 police officers, but the number of officers present was not even up to 20,” Appiah told Ghana Sports Page, describing the chaotic scene.
“The MP got upset that we didn’t join him on the field and incited the fans to attack us,” he said. “Five macho men came to the VIP section, saying they wanted to take Nana Pooley and the Ashanti Regional Supporters Chairman.”
The latest reports are that two of the three members arrested regarding the issue have been granted a bail but will reappear in court on February 17.
