In the wake of the recent departure of Martin Koopman, former coaches of Hearts of Oak, including Kenichi Yatsuhashi, David Duncan, and Samuel Boadu, are expressing keen interest in taking over the coaching role at the Phobian Club.
Alhaji Brimah Akanbi, a Board Member of Hearts of Oak, confirmed this during a press conference held on Monday to address the coaching situation.
Hearts of Oak, currently without a head coach, parted ways with Dutch trainer Martin Koopman after just four months, citing a disappointing run of results in the ongoing 2023/24 Ghana Premier League. Koopman had stepped in on a two-year deal to replace Slavko Matic.
With the coaching position vacant, the board revealed that several former Hearts of Oak coaches have reached out, expressing their desire to return and take charge. In the interim, assistant coach Abdul Rahim Bashiru has been named as the acting head coach.
As the club sits in the 8th position on the Premier League log with 16 points, Hearts of Oak faces a crucial Matchday 13 encounter against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off scheduled at 15:00 GMT. The decision on the new head coach becomes even more pivotal as the team prepares for this significant clash.
