Fans are filled with optimism every transfer window when, after their club is linked a player, they pull up a highlight reel that promises a world-beater. Sadly, signings are not that simple, and ten-minute compilation videos are not that trustworthy.
However much we will them on, sometimes deals just don’t turn out the way we hoped – or anything like it, as these disasters demonstrate. Here 5 of the worst signings of the 2022/2023 betPawa Premier League season.
Konadu Yiadom
When Hearts signed the 22-year-old defender, it was clear that the Phobians had done a shrewd business. Prior to his arrival at Hearts, Yiadom was regarded as one of the best centre-backs in the country.
Sadly, the lanky defender has cut a lonely figure at Hearts and has lost his position to Caleb Amankwah and Robert Addo Sowah in the club’s recent games.
He is not alone in that at Hearts, but with the club shelling out so much money to pip Kotoko to his signature, his switch warrants the top spot for worst transfers this season.
Yassan Ouatching
Hearts’ non-scoring strikers have attracted plenty of attention. The chief among them is Central African Republic international Yassan Ouatching. Unfortunately for Hearts, despite early promise, Ouatching has struggled to force his way into the Hearts setup.
The striker has yet to score or register an assist in 13 appearances for the Phobians.
The 24-year-old has been an unused sub in the club’s receent games raising concerns about his future at the Accra club.
Kofi Kordzi
Players of Kordzi’s calibre could have cost Legon Cities a fortune two seasons ago. But a free transfer still feels like money wasted, especially on a lucrative two-year contract. With 5 goals, 3 assists in 25 games for the Royals, the burly striker has failed to replicate the performances that attracted neutrals during his days at Hearts. Maxwell Konadu certainly would have hoped for more from Kordzi.
Zakaria Mumuni
Zakaria Mumuni joined Aduana Stars in the second transfer window after been released by Medeama. Things haven’t gone to plan since then: The Ogya Boys after leading the table for several weeks relinquished their lead to Medeama and missed out on winning the championship.
Mumuni, of course, isn’t solely responsible for the Aduana’s dismal end to the season, but he has failed to make an impact in the team. 1n 16 games, Mumuni can’t boast of a goal or an assist. What happened to the young man who was once touted to be the next big thing to happen to Ghana football?
Richard Danso
Danso is in danger of letting his career drift away. An integral part of the brilliant WAFA team of 2018, the winger was a rare bright spot the following year too, before departing for Etoile du Sahel.
The 22-year-old appeared sporadically for the Tunisian giants and a loan switch to North Texas SC and WAFA did not change his predicament. He joined Aduana Stars in the second transfer window after an unsuccessful spell with KF Tirana. He has failed to find the back of the net in 14 games and can only boast of registering one assist.
