Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has lauded Asante Kotoko's impressive performance against arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in the inaugural Democracy Cup, which the Porcupine Warriors won 2-1.
The game, held to celebrate 30 years of parliamentary democracy in Ghana, saw Kotoko take the lead after 30 minutes through Justice Blay's penalty before Hearts of Oak equalized with a header from Asamoah Boateng Afriyie.
However, Kotoko regained the lead when Peter Amidu capitalized on a defensive error by Hearts of Oak to secure a 2-1 victory.
Speaking to the media after the game, Badu, who played for both Kotoko and Hearts of Oak during his playing career, was impressed with Kotoko's display.
"For the past two years, this is the most exciting Kotoko-Hearts game I have watched. In terms of passing, aggressiveness and composure, I think everything was on point. Kotoko played well especially in the first half. The likes of Emmanuel Antwi, Samba, Blay and others took control in the middle," he said.
Kotoko's win in the Democracy Cup has secured them a ticket to face Major League Soccer side DC United in the United States at a date to be announced by the organizers.
The Kumasi-based side will continue their preparation for the new season, aiming to make an impact following a disappointing performance last term.
