Hearts of Oak legend Yaw Amankwa Mireku has voiced his frustration over defender Kelvin Osei Asibey’s performance, particularly his critical error in the 1-0 loss to Asante Kotoko on Sunday.
Speaking in an interview with Akoma FM, Mireku attributed Osei Asibey’s mistakes to inadequate training and guidance, suggesting he could have prevented such lapses if he were part of the club’s technical team.
"Osei Asibey wouldn't make such errors if I were on the Hearts of Oak technical staff," Mireku stated.
The former captain believes Osei Asibey’s overconfidence on the ball is a recurring issue stemming from the training grounds.
"While he is an excellent player, his errors reflect what happens during training. This is an area that needs serious attention," he added.
Mireku further stressed that repeated mistakes from players should carry consequences, comparing the situation to the accountability faced by coaches when results don’t go their way.
"This is the third time his mistakes have cost Hearts points. Just as coaches are sacked for failing to deliver, players who consistently cost the team points should be benched," Mireku asserted.
The defeat has left Hearts of Oak seventh on the league table with 19 points. The Phobians will aim to bounce back when they host Berekum Chelsea in their Matchday 14 fixture on Sunday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
