The first leg of the CAF Interclub 2024/25 Preliminary Round wrapped up on Sunday, 18 August, delivering a series of thrilling matches in both the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.
The weekend was marked by goals, drama, and high-quality football across the continent.
The action began on Friday, 16 August, with the first leg fixtures of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup, setting the stage for a brand-new season of intense competition.
In one of Sunday’s standout fixtures, Egyptian giants Pyramids FC powered to a dominant position by thrashing Zanzibar’s JKU SCZ 6-0, effectively putting their CAF Champions League tie beyond reach for the islanders ahead of the return leg.
In Madagascar, Disciples FC held former champions Orlando Pirates to a goalless draw, a result that will disappoint the South African side, who had hoped to make a strong continental run this season after an early exit in the previous edition. The return leg in Soweto next week will be crucial for Pirates to keep their ambitions alive.
Other notable results from the weekend include Nigeria’s Remo Stars securing a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Moroccan side AS FAR, and Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets edging Zambia’s Red Arrows by the same scoreline.
The TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup also provided plenty of entertainment on Sunday. Zimbabwe’s Dynamos FC triumphed 1-0 over Zambian powerhouse Zesco United in a tightly contested southern African clash, setting up an intriguing return leg.
In Liberia, Paynesville FC made light work of Cameroon’s Fovu De Baham with a comprehensive 4-0 win, while Ghana’s Nsoatreman FC cruised to a 3-0 victory over Chad’s Elect Sport. A thrilling 2-2 draw between Togo’s ASCK and Niger’s AS Fan showcased a balanced contest, with both goalkeepers making crucial saves to keep their teams in the tie. The return leg promises another tactical battle between these evenly matched sides.
