The stage is set for a thrilling clash as Ghana and Nigeria gear up for a two-legged encounter in the qualifiers for the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN).
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Togolese referee Aklesso Gnama to officiate the first leg, which is scheduled for December 22, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium. He will be assisted by fellow Togolese officials Jonathan Ahonto Koffi (Assistant Referee 1), Wassiou Tchamolla Ourotou (Assistant Referee 2), and Kossi Fabrice Senyo (Fourth Official).
The return leg will take place on December 28, 2024, at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Nigeria, under the officiation of Moroccan referee Hamza El Fariq. Supporting him will be Moroccan assistants Abdessamad Abertoune, Zakaria Bouchtaoui, and Hicham Temsamani as the fourth official.
This encounter reignites the historic rivalry between the two West African football giants. Ghana’s Black Galaxies have consistently edged out Nigeria's Super Eagles B in CHAN qualifiers, eliminating them in 2009 and again in 2023.
With a place at the 2025 CHAN finals—set to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania—on the line, both teams are fully focused on securing aggregate victory. The tournament will also serve as a key build-up to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, adding further significance to the showdown.
Fans from both nations eagerly await another chapter in this storied football rivalry.
