Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria, South Africa have secured qualification for the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile by making it to the semifinals of the CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
These four countries have already been verified. A day full of drama, stress, and high stakes culminated in the four teams booking their flights after fiercely contested quarterfinal triumphs.
Morocco was the first to punch their ticket, beating Sierra Leone 1-0 with a late own goal in extra time. The thrilling opening campaign for Sierra Leone came to a conclusion when the match was settled in the 115th minute.
Host nation Egypt joined Morocco following an electrifying comeback against Ghana. With a last-minute equaliser and a penalty kick, the Young Pharaohs overcame a 2-0 deficit to triumph 5-4 and secure a spot on the U20 global showpiece.
Nigeria, the most successful U20 team on the continent, kept going after overcoming Senegal, the reigning champions, on penalties. The Flying Eagles secured a record 14th appearance at the U20 World Cup by remaining composed under pressure.
Thabang Mahlangu’s game-winning goal late into extra time gave South Africa a 1-0 victory over DR Congo, completing the four.
The qualification of these four countries preserves Africa’s strong heritage at the U20 global tournament, with each team now directing its focus to the semi-finals—and ultimately the continental crown.
Chile will host the FIFA U-20 World Cup from September 27 to October 19, 2025.
