Nigerian icon Asisat Oshoala secured a record sixth CAF Women's Player of the Year title, an achievement driven by her stellar performance in guiding Barcelona to Champions League glory.

At Monday's awards gala in Marrakech, the 29-year-old striker outshone competitors Thembi Kgatlana of South Africa and Barbara Banda of Zambia.

Oshoala emerged as Barcelona's top scorer in the previous season, netting 27 goals across all competitions as the Spanish giants secured a domestic double, clinching the Primera Division title and lifting the Champions League in Turin after defeating Lyon.

Beyond her club success, Oshoala made history in Spanish football by becoming the first female player to claim the award for the highest goalscorer in the Spanish top flight, scoring 20 league goals.

As the first African player to feature in three World Cups, Oshoala's remarkable campaign contributed to her winning the continental stage once again, surpassing fellow Nigerian Perpetua Nkwocha with a total of six wins – the most by any African in history.

Her consistent brilliance, evident at both the club and international levels, earned her another individual prize, proudly joining her five previous African Women's Footballer of the Year titles.
