Former Ghana international Emmanuel Agyemang Badu believes Asante Kotoko will need nothing short of a miracle to overturn their deficit against Wydad Athletic Club (WAC) in the CAF Confederation Cup second-leg clash in Casablanca.
The Porcupine Warriors travel to Morocco on Friday, October 24, hoping to overturn a 1-0 first-leg defeat suffered at the Accra Sports Stadium last weekend.
Kotoko must produce a top-level performance to progress to the group stage of the competition, but Agyemang Badu — who spent a season at the Kumasi-based club — admits the task ahead is monumental.
“Never write anything off in football,” he told Radio Gold. “But with this one, you need a quadruple chance — a very high level of luck. It’s unfortunate because this game won’t be easy for Kotoko.
“They did very well at home and created chances, but once these North African sides score in your country, it becomes extremely difficult to qualify. Kotoko will want to open up in Casablanca, but if they don’t take care, they could be punished.”
Despite the odds, Badu expressed confidence in the tactical abilities of coach Karim Zito, noting his achievements with Ghana’s U-20 team and Dreams FC.
“I trust the coach; he’s experienced. We saw what he did with the U-20 team and at Dreams FC. But Wydad is a different level — more experienced, mature, and tactically advanced. Still, Kotoko must go all out and not be afraid,” he added.
Asante Kotoko have never won the CAF Confederation Cup since its introduction in 2004. Their arch-rivals, Hearts of Oak, remain the only Ghanaian club to lift the trophy — defeating Kotoko in the inaugural final in Kumasi.
