Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Michael Akuffo, famously known as ‘Gaddafi’, has cautioned the current set of players heading into their game against Wydad AC in the CAF Confederation Cup qualifying round.
The Red Castles emerged victors in the first leg with a narrow 0-1 against the Porcupine Warriors last Sunday, October 19, in a very fascinating game at the Ohene Gyan Stadium.
After a goalless first half, Congolese international Joseph Bakasu Banka scored a beauty in the early stages of the second department to secure the win for the travelers in the end.
Having lost the first leg, Asante Kotoko might be tempted to head into the game stronger and with an attacking mentality as they look to comeback and win the tie to sail through.
However, Michael Akuffo, who is a three-time league winner with Kotoko, has advised them to remain focus heading into the game but added they should focus much on defending well or will be dismantled by the Red Castles.
“It’s not possible, when the players especially the defenders, the attackers remain resolute and make sure that we are able to transition from defence to attack, making sure that we have people at the back so that if they are on counter attack we will be on our feet to take the ball from them,” Michael Akuffo told Radio Gold.
“This game is very tricky because you are down by one goal and you go there and open up and if you don’t take care things will go worse but I know coach Karim Zito will do a good job when they get there.”
The return leg is scheduled for today, October 24, at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca, with the winner of this tie advancing to the group phase of the competition.
