Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston says he is not under pressure to deliver trophies with Uganda’s youth national teams.
Kingston, 46, was appointed last year on a five-year contract to oversee Uganda’s youth setups. His work has already seen the Uganda U-17 team qualify for the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations after a 3–0 win over Ethiopia in the CECAFA U-17 Zonal Qualifiers.
Speaking to Fiifi Banson on Sporty Drive on Sporty FM, Kingston stressed that his focus is on long-term development rather than immediate tournament success.
“I’m not under pressure to win a trophy with Uganda. I have only been tasked with building a team for five years,” he said.
“That decision has taken away pressure from me, and I am solely focused on building a team. If the trophies come along the way, that is a bonus, but the focus is to build a winsome team.”
Kingston brings extensive experience to the role, holding both UEFA A and CAF B coaching licenses. He previously managed Ghana’s U-17 national team and had a successful stint at Danish club FC Nordsjaelland, working with the Right to Dream Academy.
