Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has apologised to Nigerians following the national team’s failure to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, while pledging a committed and determined showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Galatasaray forward admitted the disappointment of missing out on the World Cup was deeply felt by both players and supporters, describing it as a painful moment for the squad.
“I know how much the World Cup means to Nigerians,” Osimhen said. “As players, we feel that pain as well.
“We are sorry for not making it to the World Cup. It hurts us deeply because we know how proud Nigerians are of the Super Eagles and how much support we always receive.”
Osimhen, one of Africa’s leading attackers, stressed that the setback has strengthened the team’s purpose ahead of AFCON, with players eager to respond in the continental showpiece.
He insisted the Super Eagles will approach the tournament with renewed hunger, unity and discipline as they seek to restore pride among Nigerian football fanatics.
“AFCON is another opportunity for us to make Nigerians happy again,” he added. “We will fight for every ball, play with our hearts, and do everything possible to bring joy back to the nation.”
Nigeria, three-time AFCON champions, will be aiming for a deep run in the competition as they look to move on from World Cup disappointment and reassert themselves among Africa’s top footballing nations.
