Antoine Semenyo has climbed into the history books after overtaking Tony Yeboah to become Ghana’s second-highest goalscorer in Premier League history, following a stunning brace in Bournemouth’s 3-1 comeback victory over Fulham on Friday night.
The 25-year-old forward struck twice at a rain-soaked Vitality Stadium, taking his Premier League tally to 25 and 26 goals, two more than the Leeds United legend. His goals also lifted his total to six league goals this season, underlining his fine form.
Semenyo’s impact this campaign places him among the league’s most productive attackers. Only Erling Haaland (8) has scored more Premier League goals this season, while the Ghanaian also contributed an assist against Fulham to move to three assists, leaving him just behind Jack Grealish on the assists chart.
The Bournemouth star has reached his milestone in 88 Premier League appearances, significantly fewer than Yeboah, who scored his 24 goals in 47 matches across three seasons with Leeds United.
Semenyo now trails only Jordan Ayew, Ghana’s all-time leading Premier League scorer, who has netted 42 goals in 305 appearances over 11 seasons. On current form, Semenyo boasts a far superior strike rate, averaging one goal every three league games, compared to Ayew’s return of one goal in more than seven matches.
In fourth place among Ghana’s top Premier League scorers is Jeffrey Schlupp, the only Ghanaian in the top five to have lifted the Premier League trophy. The 2016 title winner with Leicester City has scored 22 goals in 280 appearances, just one more than André Ayew, the Black Stars’ most capped player.
With age and momentum on his side, Semenyo’s rapid rise continues to reshape Ghana’s Premier League scoring hierarchy.
