Former Sunderland manager Steve Bruce has named Asamoah Gyan as the most flamboyant player he ever coached during his time at the club.

Gyan, who captained Ghana's national team, joined Sunderland in 2010 for a then-club record fee of £13 million. Bruce, who was managing the team at the time, was particularly impressed by Gyan's vibrant personality and flashy style both on and off the pitch.

"Without question, we had a kid called Asamoah Gyan who we signed at Sunderland," Bruce recalled during a TikTok Q&A challenge. "He was the flashiest player I've ever managed."

Gyan's stint at Sunderland was brief but impactful. After just one season, he moved on loan to Al-Ain in the United Arab Emirates, a transfer that later became permanent.

Despite his short tenure, Gyan made 34 appearances and scored 10 goals during the 2010/2011 Premier League season, leaving a memorable impression on Bruce and the club.

Gyan retired in 2023 as Ghana's all-time top scorer and holds the record as the African player with the most goals in World Cup history.
