Germany-born Ghanaian defender Benjamin Henrichs remains sidelined as he continues his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon, with RB Leipzig confirming he is yet to make an appearance this season. His last competitive outing came nearly a year ago, in December 2024.
RB Leipzig head coach Ole Werner has offered a measured but hopeful update, revealing in his pre-match press conference ahead of Friday’s fixture against Borussia Mönchengladbach that Leipzig are aiming to integrate him (Benjamin Henrichs) again during this calendar year.
Werner emphasised, however, that there will be no rushing the 28-year-old full-back back into action, noting that patience is vital and the club intends to give Henrichs the full time required to complete his recovery. A return before the winter break has effectively been ruled out after minor setbacks forced the medical team to slow his rehabilitation and adjust the programme.
The revised plan is for Henrichs to rejoin parts of full team training in December, provided his tendon responds well to the increasing workload. The timing matters for the enterprising defender, who is keen to regain match fitness ahead of the 2026 World Cup. His last appearance for Germany came in the 1-1 Nations League draw with Hungary on 19 November 2024, shortly before the long injury layoff began.
