French-Ghanaian defender Bénédicte Simon is on the verge of making her international debut for Ghana after being named in the Black Queens squad for their high-profile friendly with England in Southampton on 5th December.

The 28-year-old right-back, who plays for Servette Geneva in Switzerland, was born in France to Ghanaian parents and previously featured for France’s U23s in a friendly against ASJ Soyaux on 8 April 2021.

Having now completed her nationality switch, Simon joins Coach Kim Lars Björkegren’s 24-woman squad as Ghana prepare for one of their toughest tests against the reigning European champions at St Mary’s Stadium.

Björkegren has named a squad blending established internationals with rising talents, including midfielder Anasthesia Achiaa, who returns after missing Ghana’s recent Women’s AFCON qualifier against Egypt.

England-based forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah, who was recently crowned 2025 SWAG Women’s Footballer of the Year (Foreign-Based), also features alongside Doris Boaduwaa, Josephine Bonsu, Grace Asantewaa, captain Portia Boakye and Alice Kusi.

Simon’s arrival is seen as a major boost to the Queens’ defensive options. With top-level experience from spells at PSG, Atlético Madrid, Sassuolo, Juventus and Valencia, she adds proven quality to a squad already rich in competition, particularly after Ghana’s bronze-medal finish at the last Women’s AFCON.

The Black Queens will use the December 5 friendly as a key measure of their development, with England expected to offer stern opposition ahead of next year’s continental showpiece (AFCON).
