The 23-year-old defender of Ghanaian descent feels linking up with the German giants was the best decision he has ever taken given his quest to play regular football at the highest level

English-born Ghanaian defender Jarell Quansah has shed light on his transfer move from Premier League giants Liverpool to Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen.

The promising centre-back swapped the English top-flight for the German elite division contest in a deal worth up to £35m after appending his signature to a five-year deal during the summer transfer window.

Speaking in an interview, the Ghana-prospect defender says his move to the BayArena campaigners was a ''no-brainer'' as he was highly enticed by their plans over his services.

The 23-year-old told Sky Sports: ''It was the management and the way they approached me because they had a very clear plan of what they’d been watching and everything they saw from me.

''They had so much detail in terms of what they’d seen of me, the potential they thought I could live up to and it matched up to what I was thinking as well. Seeing as we were on the same page in that sense, it was a no-brainer.

''To be honest, I wouldn’t say it was the hardest decision because I just wanted to play. I felt like I could play at the top level, the Bundesliga’s a top league and being able to play in the Champions League and play top games, like the semi-final [DFB Pokal] next Wednesday against Bayern, it’s a massive, massive game.''

Quansah, who has so far hit the grounds running in his debut Bundesliga campaign, has taken in 38 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen across all contests in this current 2025-26 football season.

Given his Ghanaian heritage, he still remains eligible to play for Ghana on the international stage despite playing for the England national youth teams.
