Ghanaian midfielder Douglas Owusu is making waves in Serbia after officially acquiring Serbian citizenship while impressing in his debut top-flight campaign with FK Radnik Surdulica.
The 19-year-old, who joined Radnik from Ghana’s Asekem FC, has quickly established himself as one of the brightest young prospects in Serbian football.
Owusu’s breakthrough came during a standout first season in Europe, where he played a pivotal role in Radnik’s promotion campaign and was named in the Serbian Prva Liga Team of the Season. His rapid rise has now been underlined by the acquisition of Serbian nationality, marking a new milestone in his career.
Since the start of the 2025/26 Serbian Super Liga season, Owusu has featured in seven matches, showcasing maturity beyond his years with his versatility, intelligent movement, and ability to control the tempo in midfield. Although still awaiting his first top-flight goal, his ball progression and creative spark have earned plaudits from both fans and pundits.
The dual-nationality status could open fresh opportunities for Owusu across European football, broadening his pathway at both club and international levels.
