The 27-year-old defender has bemoaned his departure from the Weserstadion after taking in a full season loan spell with the Die Werderaner during the last two football campaigns
Ghana international defender Derrick Köhn says he was ''really hurt'' when he failed to secure a permanent transfer move to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen from Turkish outfit Galatasaray.

The former Hannover 96 man spent the entire 2024-25 football season on loan at the German top-flight campaigners from the lstanbul-based club. However, the two clubs could not agree on terms for his permanent transfer switch at the end of the season.
And now, with a move being secured at fellow Bundesliga rivals Union Berlin in the summer of 2025, the former Bayern Munich ll defender has expressed regret for not joining up with Werder Bremen given his determination to reunite with them on a permanent basis at the end of his loan stint.

Speaking on a Bild podcast Stammplatz, the Black Stars left-back said: ''I could have 100 percent imagined staying. I felt very, very comfortable in Bremen and wanted to stay. The fact that Galatasaray and Werder couldn't reach an agreement in the end really hurt''. He added: ''Werder is still in my heart. The fact that it didn't work out definitely affected me.''

Köhn has so far established himself a strong reputation in the Bundesliag with the Stadion An der Alten Försterei campaigners and he is now attracting interest from Serie A duo AS Roma and Juventus ahead of the summer transfer window.
He has so far taken in 25 appearances by scoring and assisting once for Union Berlin across all competitions in this ongoing football season.
Following his splendid performances with the Black Stars during the last month's international window, the Hamburg-born full-back would surely be heading to the 2026 World Cup having so far won 3 caps for the Ghana national football team at the international level.
