Ghanaian goalkeeper Joseph Anang has been shortlisted for the Soccer Writers Ireland (SWI) League of Ireland Goalkeeper of the Year Award after an exceptional 2025 season with St. Patrick’s Athletic.
Anang enjoyed a stellar campaign between the sticks, finishing with the most clean sheets in the league while guiding a defensive unit that conceded the fewest goals throughout the season. His consistency, sharp reflexes, and leadership were pivotal to St. Patrick’s Athletic’s impressive defensive record.
The 24-year-old featured in 36 league matches, conceding just 32 goals and keeping an outstanding 18 clean sheets, establishing himself as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the League of Ireland Premier Division.
Anang’s form has drawn praise both in Ireland and internationally, boosting his profile within the Ghana national team. The former West Ham United goalkeeper made his Black Stars debut last week in a friendly against Japan.
He will compete for the coveted award alongside Shamrock Rovers’ Ed McGinty and Derry City’s Brian Maher, both of whom also enjoyed strong campaigns.
The 2025 SWI Awards winners will be announced on Friday, December 5, giving Anang the chance to cap off his remarkable season with one of Irish football’s top individual honours.
