After sealing his move to the German top-tier outfit this January, the man who once captained the side during his playing days, has now spurned the 22-year-old on to give of his best in order to establish himself as a first-team player going forward

Former Ghana international CK Akonnor has urged Black Stars' defender Jonas Adjetey to work hard in order to cement his place with Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg.

The promising centre-back, who joined the Volkswagen Arena campaigners on a four-and-a-half-year contract from Swiss Super League side FC Basel during the winter window, has now been hailed by the man who was once on the books of the German elite division side over his transfer switch this January.

With a bow in the top-flight yet to be taken in, the former Black Stars manager wants the ex-Ghana U20 star to put in  extra effort so as to stake a claim in the set-up of the Die Wölfe for a potential move to Europe's top guns in the near future.

''It’s a great move. For Wolfsburg to sign him means he definitely has something good to offer,'' the Gor Mahia gaffer began by telling Graphic Sports.''If training starts at 10 a.m., he should be there by 9 a.m. and work on himself at the gym.

'' When I went there, I was the first black player to captain the team. It was a difficult moment then, but now doors have been opened, and they understand the culture of the black man.

''All he needs to do now is to work hard, become a starter and not just a bench player. That will help and prepare him for the next level.''

Before sealing his transfer move to his new employers this winter, he figured in 23 games for FC Basel across all competitions in this current 2025-26 football season.

With this marquee move to the Bundesliga and the 2026 World Cup looming, the defender would surely be in contention to make the cut for the June global football event with the Ghana senior men's national team as he currently boasts of 7 caps with the African powerhouse on the international stage.
