Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Maxwell Boateng De Kort has revealed his decision to play for Ghana instead of the Netherlands.
In an interview on Kessben TV, the 19-year-old center-back expressed his lifelong dream of representing Ghana when asked to choose between the two nations.
Boateng, who currently plays for Belgian club Petro Eis, mentioned that despite his European upbringing, he has closely followed football events in Ghana due to his heritage.
"I’m in the process of obtaining dual citizenship, so I haven’t played for any country yet, but I hope to play for Ghana's Under-20 national team because that’s my age group," he said. "I would like to play for Ghana, and I am sure about that because I’ve been watching Ghana over the years, in good and bad times. I like them, and I will choose them."
The physically imposing central defender, born to a Ghanaian father and a Dutch mother, is also eligible to play for Belgium.
