Ghana striker Jerry Afriyie has dismissed claims he joined Saudi Arabia side Al Qadsiah because of the huge monetary gain involved.
The 18-year-old inked a three-and-a-half-year deal from Ghanaian lower side Thought FC but was instantly shipped out on loan to Spanish third tier outfit CD Lugo.
Afriyie insisted his move was made from a ferocious battle-spirit-desire to continue his development and help his ambitious new club, who are currently 14th with 29 points in the 20-team Group 1 of the Spanish Primera Federación.
"I'm too young to prioritise money," he told Sporty FM when questioned about his Saudi move.
"My mindset and plan is to reach the highest level. A lot of big clubs were interested in me but I chose where I could go and develop well.
"I am going to CD Lugo to do what I do best - score goals and make my name there," he added.
Afriyie touched down in Galicia, Spain last week and has began training with his new club and could make his first appearance for the Albivermellos in the game against Athletic Bilbao B in the Round 25 clash of the Primera Federación on Friday, February 21, at 19:30 GMT.
