The gaffer has hinted that the 22-year-old will be the ideal attacker to fill the void left by the English forward Will Goodwin after sustaining an injury during training on Sunday
Wigan Athletic manager Shaun Maloney has stated that he will repose his trust in Ghanaian youngster Maleace Asamoah to lead his forward line after losing his main man up front in this current English League One campaign.
Following the muscle injury of the English forward, the man on the touchline at the Brick Community Stadium has hinted that, the ex-Tottenham U23 winger should now be the man to be deployed as No.9 as he is capable of operating on both flanks on the field of play.
The Wigan Athletic icon, who has been addressing the injury plight of his top forward, is quoted as saying by Wigan Today: ''We obviously have to assess the situation with Will but I also have to trust Maleace. He can play off both sides as well as a '9', and we just have to trust Maleace to be that '9'.''
He added on Will Goodwin injury: ''It was just a muscle injury, with his quad, and he's had a couple of these at Oxford. On Sunday in training, it was just nothing, which makes it even more disappointing.''
Maleace has so far featured in 11 games across all competitions for Wigan Athletic in this ongoing football campaign.
Given his Ghanaian root, the Oxford-born attacker still remains fit to play for Ghana on the international stage as he is yet to be cap-tied by the England national team.
