Young Ghanaian forward Augustine Boakye recently shared how former Black Stars midfielder Sulley Muntari inspired his football journey, revealing that his admiration for the star began through his mother, a devoted fan of Muntari.
In an interview with Flashscore, Boakye recounted how he developed a deep respect for Muntari's fearless play and dedication on the pitch.
“Sulley Muntari was my idol growing up because my mum loved him so much. I watched him and also fell in love with him. His passion and ambition stood out. I loved his long-range goals and how he fought for Ghana whenever he played. Even in Europe, he paved the way for young ones like me,” Boakye shared.
Now a left-footed forward known for his fearlessness and game-changing plays, Boakye, 23, has recently joined French club Saint-Étienne on a four-year deal. While he’s yet to fully showcase his abilities in France, his impressive past performances with WAFA and Wolfsberger indicate promising potential as he settles in.
Sulley Muntari, known for his powerful strikes and contributions to Ghana's national team, also achieved significant success in Europe, winning the Champions League with Inter Milan and lifting the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008.
With over 400 club appearances and 84 international caps, Muntari’s legacy remains an inspiring benchmark for emerging talents like Boakye.
