Ghanaian international Jordan Ayew has officially signed with Leicester City, completing a two-year deal from Crystal Palace.
The move, announced on Friday, is pending final approval from the FA and Premier League.
Ayew, 32, brings a wealth of experience to the Foxes, having made 212 appearances for Crystal Palace across all competitions. The striker has also been a key figure for the Ghana national team, featuring in two FIFA World Cups and six Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
In his first interview with LCFC.com, Ayew shared his enthusiasm for the new chapter in his career: “I’m very happy to be here and I’m proud. I want to thank the Club as they fought hard to bring me here – it happened quickly and I’m so happy to be here. As a player, when you hear that the manager wants you, it just makes you want to come and work under him and to try to improve. Even though I’m 32, as a player you always want to learn and improve. I’m here to work hard and help the team achieve their targets.”
Born in Marseille, Ayew began his professional journey with Olympique de Marseille, scoring on his debut in a 2-1 victory against FC Lorient. He made 111 league appearances and netted 14 goals for the French side. Following stints with Sochaux and Lorient, Ayew joined Aston Villa in 2015, where he emerged as their top scorer for the 2015/16 season.
Ayew’s Premier League journey continued at Swansea City in January 2017, where he scored eight goals in 50 appearances. His impressive form led to a loan move to Crystal Palace in 2018/19, which was later made permanent. Ayew’s 2019/20 season at Palace was particularly noteworthy, as he earned Player of the Season, Players’ Player of the Season, and Goal of the Season awards.
Internationally, Ayew has been a mainstay for Ghana since his senior debut in 2010, amassing over 100 caps. His experience on the international stage, including a runner-up finish at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, underscores his valuable contribution to the sport.
Jordan Ayew is set to link up with his new Leicester City teammates as they prepare for their upcoming Premier League fixture against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday, August 24.
