The 24-year-old enforcer of Ghanaian descent completed his loan switch to the English second tier side from the French second division club on transfer deadline day
French-born Ghanaian midfielder Pierre Ekwah has joined Championship side Watford from Ligue 2 campaigners AS Saint-Étienne on a loan contract until the end of the season, with an option of making the deal permanent after its expiration, the club have confirmed.
The ex-Chelsea U18 star was reported to have terminated his contract with the relegated top-flight side in October last year by French tabloid L'Equipe. However, with this loan switch to the Hornets this winter, such reportage could now be treated as a mere speculation after linking up with his current suitors on a contract basis.
ln announcing the loan deal of the former Sunderland midfield enforcer, the Vicarage Road outfit have said via their club's official website: ''Watford FC have signed midfielder Pierre Ekwah on loan from French side AS Saint-Étienne.
''The 24-year-old - who made more than 50 Sky Bet Championship appearances with Sunderland - will spend the rest of the 2025/26 season with the Golden Boys, who also have an option to buy. Ekwah will wear the number 17 shirt at Vicarage Road.
Pierre Ekwah is still eligible to switch nationality allegiance and play for Ghana on the international stage despite featuring for the French U-16 & U-20 national youth teams. He is of Ghanaian and Cameroonian parentage.
