The relegated English second tier outfit have secured the services of the defender of Ghanaian origin in this current summer transfer window
League One club Plymouth Argyle have announced the signing of London-born Ghanaian defender Brendan Wiredu from League Two side Fleetwood Town.
The 25-year-old centre-back is linking up with The Greens on a permanent basis, with the transfer deal subject to EFL approval in the coming days.
An official confirmation over the signing of the former Charlton Athletic man read: ''Argyle have signed 25-year-old Brendan Wiredu for an undisclosed fee, from Fleetwood Town.
''Primarily a midfielder, but with the ability to play in central defence and full-back as well, Wiredu joins the Pilgrims following three seasons with Fleetwood, with whom he rose to the role of captain.
''London-born Brendan came through the academy of Charlton Athletic, and had loan spells with Bromley and Colchester United, before departing The Valley in February 2021, bound for Colchester on a permanent basis.
''Two seasons of playing regularly in Essex caught the eye of Fleetwood, who paid six figures to tempt Brendan out of the South East for the first time. He has played regularly over three seasons on the Fylde coast, the first two in League One, and is now set for his next challenge.''
Argyle Head of Football Operations David Fox said of the capturing of the defender via the club's official website: ''Brendan is a player we have kept a close eye on, and he is a player who will really suit us as this moment in time. He is at an age where he is experienced, but still has many great years in front of him. We think he will complement us perfectly.”
Wiredu is expected to wear the number 4 shirt for the 2025-26 football season.
He remains eligible to play for Ghana on the international stage as he is yet to be cap-tied by the England national team given his Ghanaian heritage.
