The talented teenager has put pen to paper on a fresh term with the Belgian top-flight side, with his new deal set to run through until 2027
Ghanaian budding star Joseph Opoku has signed a two-year contract extension with Belgian Pro League club Zulte Waregem, with an option of extension to another two years upon its expiration, the club have confirmed.
The 19-year-old, who joined the Essevee on a one-year contract, has lived up to expectations with his employers and has now been rewarded with fresh terms given his magnificent outings last season.
An official statement over his contract extension read: ''Joseph Opoku (19) thrilled many Essevee fans last season. The Ghanaian has now seen his excellent season crowned with a new contract. Opoku and Essevee have extended the contract and signed a new two-year contract with an option for two more seasons.
''Joseph Amankwaah Opoku. Exactly a year ago, an unknown name, today he's adored by many football fans with a red-and-green heart. The Ghanaian winger impressed in his first season as a professional footballer with a wealth of incisive dribbling and unexpected moves. This resulted in three goals and seven assists across 26 matches. Opoku's contract is now being extended. This means the attacker is starting a new two-year contract at Gaverbeek. The club also has an option for two additional seasons.''
Opoku had this to say right after inking his new deal via the club's official website: ''Essevee has given me so much over the past twelve months," Opoku begins. "A year ago, I wouldn't have even dared to dream of this scenario. Today, I'm a professional footballer, and we'll soon be playing at the highest level in Belgium. I'm very proud of what we've achieved with the team, but I'm convinced this is just the beginning."
He had a fantastic debut season having featured in 29 games by netting 3 times and assisting 7 for Zulte Waregem across all competitions in the 2024-25 campaign.
He has already made a strong case for himself over a national team call-up following his fine form as an upcoming talented teenage sensation.
