Caleb Yirenkyi, the versatile Ghanaian teenager excelling with FC Nordsjaelland, has been ranked among the top ten U20 defensive midfielders in Europe outside the top five leagues, according to the CIES Football Observatory.
Primarily a defensive midfielder but also capable of playing at right-back, Yirenkyi has been one of the standout performers in the Danish Superliga this season. His explosive start to the campaign not only solidified his place at club level but also earned him a call-up to the Black Stars, where he made his debut during the Unity Cup in London.
The 19-year-old placed fourth in the CIES rankings with a score of 71.1, just behind Danish-born Ghanaian midfielder Noah Nartey of Brøndby IF.
A graduate of the Right to Dream Academy, Yirenkyi was on the radar of several clubs during the summer transfer window, though no move materialized. However, his performances — which include one goal and one assist in seven matches this season — are expected to pave the way for a transfer to one of Europe’s top five leagues in January.
Yirenkyi also enhanced his reputation during the September international break, starring for Ghana in the World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Mali, where his composure and versatility stood out.
