Henry Asante Twum, Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), remains hopeful that 2025 will be a turning point for Ghana football, despite the setbacks in 2024.
His comments come on the heels of the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco later this year. The Black Stars ended their qualification campaign at the bottom of Group F with just three points, having recorded three draws and three losses.
The disappointment was compounded by the Black Galaxies' failure to qualify for the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) after losing to Nigeria.
However, Asante Twum pointed out some positive developments, notably the performances of the Black Satellites and Black Princesses, and remains optimistic about the future of Ghanaian football.
“The year 2024 was a tough year for our football. The Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, and the Black Galaxies also missed out on the CHAN tournament,” Asante Twum said in an interview with Asempa FM.
“Despite these challenges, the Black Satellites and Black Princesses made us proud, and I believe 2025 will be a better year for our football. The Black Stars are focusing on qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, and we are hopeful that this will be achieved,” he added.
