Lower-tier Ghanaian club Afigya Liberty has reportedly demanded a 25 percent onward transfer fee from Asante Kotoko SC following the sale of talented winger Bernard Somuah to Spanish side RC Celta de Vigo.
The demand stems from an alleged agreement reached during Somuah’s earlier transfer from Afigya Liberty to the Kumasi-based giants, which reportedly included a sell-on clause entitling the club to a percentage of any future transfer fee should the player move abroad.
Sources close to the matter indicate that officials of Afigya Liberty believe the clause clearly guarantees them 25 percent of the transfer proceeds from any deal involving the promising winger. As a result, the club is seeking to ensure that the terms of the original agreement are respected following Somuah’s move to Spain.
Somuah, who rose through the ranks at Afigya Liberty, caught the attention of Kotoko scouts with his pace, creativity, and attacking instincts. After joining the Porcupine Warriors, the winger continued to develop and quickly established himself as one of the club’s exciting young prospects.
The 19-year-old's impressive performances eventually attracted interest from Europe, culminating in a move to RC Celta de Vigo, where he is expected to continue his development within the Spanish club’s structure.
For Afigya Liberty, the potential sell-on fee represents not only financial reward but also recognition of their role in nurturing the player during the early stages of his career. Smaller clubs in Ghana often rely heavily on such clauses as a way of benefiting from the future success of players they help develop.
Meanwhile, officials at Asante Kotoko SC are yet to publicly comment on the claim, and it remains unclear whether discussions between the two clubs are ongoing regarding the payment.
The forward joined the Spanish club on loan in 2024, and has been with the Celta Fortuna side before making his deal permanent in February 2026. He has scored five goals this season.
