Former Ghana international George Owu has urged Ghanaians to unite and support head coach Otto Addo despite the recent criticism of the Black Stars' poor performance in the AFCON qualifiers.
Ghana has had a difficult start to the AFCON qualification campaign, losing two matches and drawing two, leaving them with just two points from four games. They currently sit third in their group as they head into the final round of qualifiers this month.
To keep their hopes alive for next year’s tournament in Morocco, Ghana must secure victories against already-qualified Angola and bottom-ranked Niger, while also relying on Sudan to drop points against the same teams.
In an interview with Kessben FM, Owu, a former goalkeeper for Asante Kotoko and Ashantigold, encouraged Ghanaians to stand behind Otto Addo in these challenging times.
“Otto Addo is not new to the Black Stars as coach. Truth be told, all is not well with our national team, but I implore Ghanaians to rally behind the coach and support him to turn things around,” said Owu.
The Black Stars will travel to Luanda to face Angola on November 15, before hosting Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 18.
Owu, now 42, made 10 appearances for the Black Stars and was part of the squad at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where he served as the second-choice goalkeeper.
