Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum believes the Black Stars can match their historic 2010 World Cup run when the 2026 edition takes place this year.
Drawn in Group L, Ghana will face Panama, England and Croatia in the group stage.
After returning to the World Cup in Qatar 2022 following their absence in 2018, the Black Stars were eliminated in the group stage. Despite that setback, Asante Twum remains confident about Ghana’s chances in 2026.
“Our target for the World Cup is to qualify from the group stage and be competitive,” he told Akoma FM. “We want to fight, we have the quality, and we believe we can match our quarter-final appearance and possibly go even further.”
He also revealed that the technical team has been strengthened since Qatar 2022. Coach Otto Addo has requested new additions to the squad, and the GFA is working to finalize the signings, though names cannot be disclosed yet due to contractual obligations.
“Following the Qatar 2022 World Cup, we strengthened the technical team. The coach has requested some new additions, and the FA is currently working on them. However, the individuals involved are under contract with their respective employers, making it difficult to disclose names at this time,” he said.
Asante Twum added that the camping base and logistical plans will be announced in early February. The provisional squad is expected in April, with the final squad confirmed by June 1.
Ghana will start their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, face England in Boston, and finish the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
