The Black Princesses of Ghana are set to begin their 2024 U-20 Women's World Cup campaign today, September 2, in Colombia, marking their sixth consecutive appearance at the tournament.
Led by coach Yusif Basigi, the team will be looking to advance beyond the group stage for the first time, having been unable to do so in their previous outings.
Placed in Group E, the Black Princesses will face Austria in their opening match at the Estadio Metropolitano de Techo, with kick-off scheduled for 22:00 GMT. They will later take on Japan and New Zealand in their remaining group stage fixtures.
The team has been preparing rigorously for the tournament, starting with a training camp in Cape Coast that lasted over a month before moving to Accra, where they secured a 3-1 victory in a friendly match. After arriving in Colombia, the Black Princesses played two preparatory matches, drawing 0-0 with Mexico and 2-2 with South Korea.
The team is determined to make history by reaching the Round of 16 for the first time.
