Desmond Ofei, head coach of the Black Satellites, has highlighted the potential of the Ghana Football Association's newly established youth national teams in facilitating the transition of players into the senior national team, the Black Stars.

Just a week ago, the Executive Council of the GFA announced the formation of four new developmental national teams for boys and five for girls.

Consequently, the youth structure will comprise U-16, U-18, U-19, and U-21 teams for boys, along with U-16, U-18, U-19, U-21, and U-23 teams for girls.

Following their triumph in the 2023 African Games final against Uganda last Thursday, Desmond Ofei elaborated on how these new national teams will serve as crucial stepping stones for young players aspiring to reach the Black Stars.

“I don’t know if you’ve read, but the FA has four new youth national teams,” stated Desmond Ofei, who also serves as the GFA's head of coaching education.

“From U20, players will progress to the U21 team, then to the U23 team, and finally, they will have the opportunity to transition to the Black Stars once they are deemed ready,” he explained.

The establishment of these youth national teams underscores the GFA's commitment to nurturing talent and providing a structured pathway for young players to realize their potential at the highest level of Ghanaian football.
