George Boateng has condemned the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for taking steps that never helped the team after their shambolic 2023 Africa Cup of Nations campaign.
Boateng - who was an assistant to coach Otto Addo was part of those who were weed-out after the Afcon tourney in Ivory Coast where the team recorded an uninspiring output which prompted the GFA to dissolve the entire technical team.
Even though Otto Addo made a comeback to the senior national team as head coach, he failed to qualify the team to the 2025 Afcon.
Boacteng told SuperSport’s Soccer Africa that; "I am a very strong believer in continuity. I said it straight after the tournament [2023 AFCON] and also in the media that, as disappointing as it is, the federation has to analyze it.
“You have to go in-depth to see where the mistakes were in terms of management, players, and staff, and then you replace those who were not competent enough—whether it be the playing body, staff member, or technical team.
He raised additional concerns regarding whether the GFA had taken the appropriate measures to revamp the team following the Afcon setback.
“You then rebuild on that, but I am not too sure if that has been done after the Africa Cup of Nations because you can see that after I left, we have now had a bigger slide. At least when I was there, we qualified and were unlucky not to get out of the group stage."
Meanwhile, Boateng has declared his willingness to undertake the vacant managerial position at Blackburn Rovers as they are in hunt for a head coach.
With the World Cup qualifiers set to resume in March, the Black Stars are second in Group I with nine points - Ghana will take on Chad and Madagascar.
In the two decisive fixtures, Ghana will host Chad on March 17, before jetting out to square-it-out with Madagascar on March 24.
