Former Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA),George Afriyie, has thrown his weight behind the Black Stars, urging Ghanaians to support the team led by coach Otto Addo as he prepares to guide the team to the 2026 World Cup, which will be staged in the USA, Canada, and Mexico, Kickgh.com reports.
The former Vice President of the GFA, believes collective backing is crucial for the team’s success in their quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“I am ready to support Black Stars to qualify for the 2026 World Cup,” Afriyie said during an interview with Sporty FM.
“I have spoken to the Vice Chairman (Stephen Appiah) on what he has to do, but whatever I have to do to ensure Black Stars qualify for the World Cup, I am ready to do that and I am in for that,” he added.
Otto Addo's retaining has sparked debate among stakeholders, with many Ghanaian football fanatics expressing disappointment over the GFA's decision to maintain him as head coach of the senior national team.
With the World Cup qualifiers set to resume next Month (March), the Black Stars are second in Group I with nine points - Ghana will take on Chad and Madagascar.
In the two decisive fixtures, Ghana will host Chad on March 17, before jetting out to square-it-out with Madagascar on March 24.
