Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to prioritize the development of local players for the Black Stars following the national team's disappointing performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Currently sitting third in Group F with just two points from two draws and two defeats, Ghana's chances of qualifying for the tournament in Morocco next year are now in jeopardy. This concern has grown after the Black Stars' surprising 2-0 defeat to Sudan on Tuesday.
In light of these challenges, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe emphasizes the importance of nurturing homegrown talent. "I can assure you that we have good players in the country. If we provide them with a three-month training camp and the right coaching, we will see the potential these local players can bring to the Black Stars," the veteran administrator stated during an interview with Asempa FM.
He further urged the GFA to adopt a deliberate approach to this initiative, expressing confidence that it would yield positive results for Ghanaian football. "The Ghana Football Association must be intentional about this plan; I believe it will work for us as a country," added the Hearts of Oak board member.
The Black Stars will regroup next month to face Niger and Angola in their final Group F matches, where they must secure victories and hope for favorable results in Sudan's remaining games to have a chance at qualification.
