Ghana football legend Mohammed Polo has urged Otto Addo to step down as head coach of the Black Stars following the team's disappointing 2-0 defeat to Sudan in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Polo's comments come after the Black Stars failed to secure a win in their quest for qualification, having previously lost to Angola and drawn with Niger in their earlier Group F matches. Despite a goalless draw in the first leg against Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium, Ghana's struggles persisted during the return leg at the Martyrs of February Stadium in Libya.

The pressure has been mounting on Addo to resign, and Polo, a celebrated figure in Ghanaian football and 1982 AFCON winner, stated that he would have already stepped down if he were in Addo’s position.

"If I were Otto Addo, I would have resigned by now," Polo expressed during an interview with Kumasi-based Akoma FM.

Following the recent defeat, the Black Stars now sit in third place in Group F with just two points from four matches, raising doubts about their chances of qualifying for the tournament. The team is set to regroup in November for their final group matches against Niger and Angola.
