Former Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Tamimu Issah, has criticized the management committee system used in Ghana football, calling it outdated.
National teams, including the Black Stars, operate under a management committee. However, Issah has raised concerns over the relevance of this structure, deeming it a relic of the past.
“One of the problems I have is the management committee system. Just look around, where do you see this kind of system? It is archaic. We should do away with that management committee system,” Issah told Asempa FM in a recent interview.
Issah clarified that while management is necessary, the current system is flawed. “I’m not saying there shouldn’t be management, but the coach is the manager of the team. You can have a structure, but the kind of structure we have doesn’t exist anywhere else,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has dissolved the Black Stars management committee following the team's disappointing performance in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The Black Stars struggled in the qualifiers, securing only three points from six matches with three losses and three draws. As a result, Ghana, four-time winners of the tournament, finished bottom of Group F and will miss the competition in Morocco for the first time in 20 years.
The GFA is expected to form a new management committee for future fixtures. Looking ahead, the Black Stars will focus on their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, with their next match scheduled for March 2025.
