George Afriyie, former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has inscribed his reaction to allegations of wrongdoing charges levelled against him by the domestic football governing body prosecuting attorney, pleading innocent and explaining that his comments were misinterpreted.

“My comments were taken out of context, misinterpreted, and do not constitute improper conduct,” Afriyie said, defending his comments as a willful perversion of facts.

The charges levelled against Afriyie on November 7, originated from remarks he made during an interview on Kumasi-based Kessben TV.

In that interview, he mentioned an alleged match-fixing occurrence involving Ashantigold and Inter Allies, hinting at manipulation in the Ghana top tier league.

The Ghana FA contended that these comments hurt the league’s reputation, invoking Section 11(2)(d) of the 2019 GFA Disciplinary Code, which forbids conduct that brings the name of the league into disrepute.

With Afriyie’s formal response submitted, the FA prosecuting attorney will now review his claims against the cited regulations before deciding his culpability or acquittal.
