The Ghana Football Association says it has introduced measures to deal with poor refereeing in the Ghana Premier League.
Referees Manager Alex Kotey says the FA is working behind the scenes to improve standards and remove underperforming officials when necessary.
Speaking on the GFA Podcast, Kotey rejected claims that referees favour certain clubs.
“It is very difficult to agree or to generalise that the referees are biased. I would want to rather say that they did not have a good day. Just like any club will get a bad day, it is so with our referees. They are humans,” he said.
Kotey admitted that mistakes happen but stressed that errors do not mean officials are unfair.
He also revealed that the FA has systems in place to deal with referees who fail to meet expectations.
“In our own small way, from the referees department, we have put in a lot of structures that we are trying to pluck some of them out, but it’s been quite slow because we need to be tactful.
“This year alone, we have put some of the referees on ice due to errors in decision-making. So, we put you on ice, put you through some training and then if you are okay, the referees committee reinstate you,” Kotey said.
According to him, the FA will continue to train and support match officials across the country as part of efforts to raise the standard of officiating in domestic football.
