Ghana has encountered a huge decline in the latest FIFA rankings, dropping four places to 77th amidst a poor run in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign.

This marks a disturbing period for a team once celebrated as one of Africa’s footballing powerhouse, with their current ranking sitting carelessly close—just 12 points away—from their lowest-ever position.

The winless run in the qualifiers has been a nuisance for fans to endure, with many pointing fingers at the head coach—Otto Addo, dolling out bad tactics, poor performances and missed opportunities as the miscreants behind the team’s poor outing.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Otto Addo are under immense pressure to reverse the team’s fortunes, with the coming months predicted to be a period of surprises, as the Black Stars will prepare for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers offering a serious opportunity to rebuild confidence and momentum.

For now, however, the Black Stars’ fall in the rankings serves as a harsh reality check and stark reminder of the challenges facing Ghanaian football and the urgent need for decisive action to restore the team to its rightful place among Africa’s elite.
