Kofi Adams, Minister of Sports and Recreation says the government will assess the future of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo at the appropriate time.

The former Borussia Dortmund talent gaffer has faced mixed reactions from supporters and analysts during Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign, which has seen moments of both frustration and revival.

Addo was laid on the criticism board following Ghana's 1–1 draw with Chad on Matchday 7 in September but he has since guided the team to back-to-back wins, including a narrow 1–0 victory over Mali and a resounding 5–0 triumph against the Central African Republic in Meknes, Morocco.

Speaking to Adom FM, Adams acknowledged the divided opinions surrounding Addo’s leadership but stressed that the government would act in the national interest when the time comes.

“We indicated that at the right time, we will look at the concerns of Ghanaians, and that time will come,” he said.

“We have divided opinions at the moment, but we have been given the power to manage and rule the country, and at the end of the day, we will make the right decision on Otto Addo.”

Ghana currently sit top of Group I with 22 points and are within touching distance of qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

The Black Stars will wrap up their qualification campaign on Sunday, October 12, when they face Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
